It all starts with Coffee!
Rituals are a good signal to your unconscious that it is time to kick in.
~Anne Lamott
Being a blogger and a full-time mom, it is very important for me to have a few rituals and habits in place. This is Rabail Velani, and today we will be talking about my daily writing habits and rituals.
For it all to start, we first need coffee. Yes, that is my brain's way of knowing it is time to write. No matter what time of the day it is, coffee sets the mood for me. After that, I settle into my space, either somewhere outdoors or if indoors then my roll top desk. I start off by writing in my Hobonichi Techo planner, I write my gratitude and write how my day would be. After that, I look over my check list and see what it is that I am doing that day. I created my checklist the night before. Some days if there is a lot on my mind, I will write in my journal also to get all the gunk out.
While sipping my coffee and listening to lo fi music, I start writing my blogs. I am old school you guys; I need to write my blogs before I even turn to a screen. It’s a lot easier carrying a little notebook vs. a MacBook Pro. Also, my brain shows up for writing this way. After much writing and rewriting comes the editing part. At this point, I take out my laptop and start writing and editing as I go. If I am outdoors, I wait to get home to do this part.
What time of the day do I write you ask? I usually prefer mornings but sometimes I work late. Depending on the day. With it being summer and kids being home also having guests over, It always does not work in my favor to work in the mornings. Although late night happens, even those times my coffee is the hero. It’s the main attraction when it comes to my writing.
Since moving to Colorado my views and the weather have been an incredible bonus to my writing. I end up writing in my backyard a lot of times to get inspiration. The sound of birds chirping, watching a deer in the distance just gazing, really inspires me. Depending on what my day looks like, I sometimes like going to nearby café’s to write. The café’s in my area have beautiful scenery and outdoor seating that are just amazing to do some brain work.
Lately, I have been back on track with writing my novel. Some days when I can’t work on my blog, I write my novel. However, as you have guessed, I write all the time. I am a very introverted person and writing is my best way of communicating. So, do I have a ritual? Yes! Do I write every day? Yes! Same time? No!
Writing is life!
Until next time from my pen to yours,
Chao
